Freehold Montessori was established in 1998. We are currently celebrating over 20 years of excellence in education!
Our Mission
Our mission at Freehold Montessori is to be able to deliver a complete Montessori program by providing a diverse educational community that is built on the Montessori philosophy that fosters curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking for its students. Additionally, we consider the emotional, intellectual, physical, and social development of the total child by addressing the uniqueness of each child in a nurturing, emotionally secure and academically excellent environment. At Freehold Montessori, teachers follow students’ individual needs to achieve personal academic excellence and to become life-long learners who respect themselves, others and their environment.
Our Philosophy
Our program is based on children’s developmental needs and creates freedom within limits through a carefully prepared environment. The environment allows exposure to materials and experiences that develop intelligence as well as physical and psychological abilities. Montessori materials are self-correcting, interesting to children and developmentally appropriate. The prepared environment is central to the implementation of the Montessori Curriculum. A great deal of time and care went into preparing the classroom environment. The child's work within this "'prepared environment" consists mainly of using the materials especially designed by Maria Montessori.
The child's motivation and interest in the work comes partly from his ability to actively decide for himself/herself the work with which he/she wishes to become involved. Montessorians believe the process of the work is important, rather than the product. Ideally, then, the child is motivated for the performance of the activity itself, and not the end result of that activity. Repetition plays an important role in the child’s process of learning. It is through repetition of an activity that the child learns to perfect himself/herself and his/her skills. The child strives for precision and perfection in order to build his/her own self-esteem and confidence. That is why, in the Montessori environment, the child is able to repeat activities as much as he/she desire. Each time a child repeats an activity, he/she is gaining confidence in his/her abilities.
