Welcome to Freehold Montessori Preschool

Mission Statement

Our mission at Freehold Montessori is to be able to deliver a complete Montessori program by providing a diverse educational community that is built on the Montessori philosophy that fosters curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking for its students. Additionally, we consider the emotional, intellectual, physical, and social development of the total child by addressing the uniqueness of each child in a nurturing, emotionally secure and academically excellent environment. At Freehold Montessori, teachers follow students’ individual needs to achieve personal academic excellence and to become life-long learners who respect themselves, others and their environment.

We Believe

Freehold Montessori’s mission is to ignite a lifelong love of learning within each student. We provide meaningful experiences that fully engage young minds in the pursuit of academic excellence, self-reliance and the determination to contribute to our rapidly changing community and world.

Our School Values include:

  • We are committed to the Montessori philosophy
  • We believe in educating the whole child and Teachers encourage and inspire children to do not only the minimum, but also their best
  • We believe that education is preparation for life and that Education is not acquired by listening to words but by experiences in which the child is a participant in his/her environment
  • Children should be treated with respect.
  • We believe in teaching students how to learn rather than what to learn
  • We believe education should not be one-size-fits-all and that Children need to learn how to think for themselves and how to solve problems in original and creative ways
  • We believe there is no greater strength than strength of character
  • We value a safe and respectful learning environment…. Children need to be listened to in an atmosphere in which they feel safe in expressing their view points
  • We are committed to helping others and Children are taught to respect the rights of others and to appreciate the contributions of all life
  • We believe that powerful learning happens outside of the classroom
  • We believe in community and a spirit of cooperation rather than competition is the best atmosphere for learning

Learning and the child’ school day should be a happy, joyous experience!

Our Philosophy

Freehold Montessori program is based on children’s developmental needs and creates freedom within limits through a carefully prepared environment. The environment allows exposure to materials and experiences that develop intelligence as well as physical and psychological abilities. Montessori materials are self-correcting, interesting to children and developmentally appropriate. The prepared environment is central to the implementation of the Montessori Curriculum. A great deal of time and care went into preparing the classroom environment. The child's work within this "'prepared environment" consists mainly of using the materials especially designed by Maria Montessori. The child's motivation and interest in the work comes partly from his ability to actively decide for himself/herself the work with which he/she wishes to become involved in. Montessorians believe the process of the work is important, rather than the product. Ideally, then, the child is motivated for the performance of the activity itself, and not the end result of that activity. Repetition plays an important role in the child’s process of learning. It is through repetition of an activity that the child learns to perfect himself/herself and his/her skills. The child strives for precision and perfection in order to build his/her own self-esteem and confidence. That is why, in the Montessori environment, the child is able to repeat activities as much as they desire. Each time a child repeats an activity, he/she is gaining confidence in his/her abilities.

The search for the right school for you and your family is an exciting process, and one that leads to some big questions, like: What do we expect from a school? Where will our child be happy? How do we apply? What comes next? At Freehold Montessori, we like to begin the conversation with these and other meaningful questions. Where will your child be known—and come to know themselves as a confident, considerate, independent young thinker? And perhaps most important: How can you ensure that your child is fully prepared—academically, emotionally, socially, and personally—for real life (both in and beyond school)? We look forward to exploring these questions with you as you consider us. To start, please fill out our online inquiry form, attend an Open House, or call or email us to schedule an individual tour.
